What is a fit interview?

Introducing yourself, your achievement stories and your motivation — and why it matters as much as the case.

The fit interview is where the interviewer gets to know you: who you are, why this firm, and how you handle people and pressure. Many candidates are turned down here despite a strong case.

Three questions that keep coming

  • Tell us about yourself (one to two minutes).
  • Why consulting? And why us specifically?
  • Tell us about a time you led a team or overcame a challenge.

Build your stories in advance

Prepare four to six stories from your studies and work, and write each in four parts: the situation, the challenge, what you did, and the result with numbers.

Key takeaways

  • Fit matters as much as the case.
  • Prepare 4–6 stories in four parts.
  • End every story with a result in numbers.

Check your understanding

Three quick questions; nothing is saved.

  1. 1.How many stories should you prepare?
  2. 2.How do you end a story?
  3. 3.Why say “I” instead of “we”?
